Seven Secrets Why Style Is So Important Right Now

There is a temptation to think that how we look is becoming less and less important as lockdown restrictions become greater and greater.

But nothing is further from the truth to my mind.

1.    An increased dependency on online shopping with fewer opportunities to touch and try, means we need to be clearer on our own personal style and the colour choices that work best for us. We need to become savvy shoppers, able to shop with purpose.

2.    Time and time again we’re being told that feeling good and looking good are great, positive contributors to our mental health and well-being. And that’s good for coping with covid lockdown.

3.    Many of us are using lockdown as a time for clearing our wardrobes, decluttering our home space. Once we have clarity on our style and colours then wardrobe detoxing becomes easier. We can do it with focus and purpose, creating a wardrobe of coordinated pieces that work together and work for us.

4.    If, like me, you’ve recently become an empty nester, you may feel an overwhelming sense of grief and a distinct lack of purpose. Discovering who you really are and expressing this uniqueness through the clothes and colours you choose will permeate all areas of life moving forward, whether that’s a renewed sense of self, preparing for new adventures, change in work circumstances, dating again…whatever.

5.    Time is something we have plenty of during lockdown. This time creates an opportunity to experiment with outfits, with accessories and with make-up, perhaps refreshing the look you’ve relied on for years. Be honest, when was the last time you changed your make-up look? Are you still wearing the same blue mascara you wore in the 80s?

6.    We have seen and by necessity, had to embrace an increasing reliance on online communication, whether to keep in touch with family or for professional reasons. Online communication demands the need to dress with confidence and clarity. Being clear on your style and colours will help create a curated and comfortable, yet competent look.

7.    Finally, by exploring & investing in your personal style now, this information is transformational and life changing for many. This information will last long after lockdown. Now how many other self-care investments can you say that about?
